Bautzen is located about 45 minutes drive past Dresden close to the Polish and Czech borders. It is a beautiful city with the nickname “City of Towers”

Bautzen (Upper Sorbian: Budyšin) is a municipality and town in the German state of Saxony. Bautzen is the administrative seat of the district of the same name. The town is located on the river Spree. Here it has a short, deep valley. The town has 38,006 inhabitants[1]. The Sorbian minority is estimated at 5%. The old part of the town has a medieval character. The main industry is Bombardier (ex-VEB Waggonbau, ex-Busch) and produces trams. During the time of the German Democratic Republic, at the back of the Palace of Justice there was a political Stasi prison, called Bautzen II, while Bautzen I was (and still is) the “normal” prison, known throughout Germany as “Gelbes Elend”. In this case, “yellow” refers to the yellow brick from which the building is constructed. The cathedral in Bautzen is the only simultaneous church in Saxony. Catholics and Protestants jointly manage the church, separated only by an iron – more symbolic – fence.

Finally, Bautzen is also known for the sauce and food brand Bautz’ner, which has been established in the city since 1953. This brand is especially popular in eastern Germany, partly due to the memories it evokes of the GDR.

Also if you want to spend a day in Prague, this is the perfect place to stay, it is about an hour and a half drive to Prague and 2 hours to Berlin.

The Polish and Czech borders are about 15 minutes away.

At 15 minutes away you will come across the first winter sports facilities where you can enjoy great cross-country skiing, a little further at 90 to 120 minutes you will arrive at the ski resort spindleruv mlyn, more about that later

Lots of untouched nature

Around Bautzen you will find lots of untouched nature in which many species of animals and plants live. The vast forests give all this a unique experience and a great impression. You have a good chance to take beautiful photos here.
